LiveFit Trainer: Week 5 Recap

May 14, 2013 By Heather Blackmon

.

I’m firmly in Phase 2 now! Week 5 was the hardest week of workouts yet, but still completely doable for where I am today. I have to haul butt in the gym to get through in my 1 hour target window, and then we add 30 minutes of cardio to the mix.

LiveFit Trainer Week 5

I did two runs last week (don’t want to overdo it!) and really enjoyed the feeling of running! It’s freeing to run without a time goal or pressure – something I needed to bring the JOY back! This week I did 2 runs, 1 elliptical, and 1 yoga. It’s really fun to figure out what I feel like doing for cardio each day!

I still prefer to try to fit that all in before work, but some days I’m more successful than others. Have I mentioned I’m still having fun?! 🙂

LiveFit Trainer Week 5 Recap

As much as Laura told me I’d love lifting, I really didn’t expect to be having so much fun. I love the feeling of strength it gives me and doing “strange” things that girls don’t typically do. I’m not gonna lie, it makes me feel tough sometimes!

Kirk has even noticed some new muscles on me, especially my triceps which I have a hard time flexing. They’re small, but they’re there! I think they’ll help me in my fencing classes too.

Fencing is Fun!

I’m a little impatient with the whole “leaning out” process. My stomach has always been my problem area and I want it to go away. I’m actually eating healthy, limiting my alcohol, and lifting weights…so my belly can start shrinking any time now! My brain fully understands that it takes time, but I’m not very good at patience.

Wanna know a secret?

I kinda want to keep training after LiveFit and see what this body can do. I’m so inspired by these strong women that I am dreaming a bit about doing a bikini competition at some point in the future. I have a lot of leaning out to do in order for that to be realistic…but it’s on my radar. I never expected to say that!

Wow – I can’t believe I wrote that down. Scary.

So now it’s time to move on to Week 6 – the halfway point of the program. I will still be getting in a strength workout this weekend at Blend Retreat (yay!), so let me know if you want to hit the gym with me!

In both cases, we need to protect the land we enjoy on our adventures. And Leave No Trace is one program that helps with that - especially those that have a high rate of degradation through a program called Hot Spots.

I'm excited to be partnering with @leavenotrace and @onxbackcountry to celebrate and preserve all these beautiful outdoor places. And for all of June, $10 of every onX Backcountry membership is being donated towards Leave No Trace’s Hot Spot program. A great way to get access to my favorite backcountry app AND support LNT!

I added a link in my bio if you're interested in learning more, so you can help #ExploreandRestore!

What scares me is probably different than what scares you.

I am admittedly a timid mountain biker - but getting better every day.

I'm afraid to face plant, but still working on crow pose in yoga.

Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga clothes?

For at least part of the day, it's just easier to put on yoga pants, sports bra, and a "zoom-appropriate" top. Or a button-up layered over my workout tank. It makes it SO much easier to squeeze in a workout when I have time.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's not going back to work clothes?!

But really, keep your gaze straight ahead to keep your neck safe in bridge (or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). It's rare that a version of this pose isn't included during cooldown in my classes.

Do you love bridge as much as I do?
