I've been told I teach this pose a lot & it's true! I love this pose to work on:
* Ankle mobility
* Inner thigh stretch + strength
* Balance
* Mental Focus

So let's get you practicing yoga poses that help your balance. Ready?

Here are 10 pose ideas: ⬇️⬇️⬇️

➡️ Tree Pose - one foot on the ground & the other on your leg. You can even practice this while waiting in line!

➡️ Figure Four > Hand to Big Toe - add a little movement to increase the challenge & more closely mimic real life.

➡️ Warrior 3 - start with hands on blocks or stretch your hands overhead. This is also a great strength move on top of the balance challenge.

➡️ Crow - the first arm balance many people come across, even though it''s not the easiest!

➡️ Plank > Side Plank - adding movement against to really challenge the core as you work on keeping your balance. Try on your forearm too!

➡️ Eight-Angle - this one has a lot of skills in a single arm balance, working on hip flexor strength, compression, core stability, internal rotation, and major focus.

➡️ Headstand - the body awareness you need to find balance upside down is a huge benefit for all your outdoor activities. And it encourages blood flow from your tired legs through the lungs for fresh oxygenation!

➡️ Flying Splits - Learning to shift your weight past your comfort level as you build strength in your core & upper body,

➡️ Forearm Stand (Pincha) - taking upside down to a new level with the added balance challenge of only using your forearms.

➡️ Handstand - even if you can't balance in the middle of the room, just working on this pose helps improve your balance, concentration, and strength.

Think about widening the knees - a looser bind, if you will - to make more space to get that other foot in place.

🤔Truth or Myth: you need to put your foot above

🤔Truth or Myth: you need to put your foot above or below the knee in tree pose.

This is a myth!! 🚫

(Honestly, I taught this in my early classes before questioning why)

Your knee is actually quite strong & should be able to withstand multi-directional loads.

And it does in several other common yoga poses: side plank and warrior 1 are just two examples.
