How many times have you heard opinions on your protein needs as an athlete? What about the difference between the needs of endurance athletes versus strength athletes? I know I’ve had this conversation myself with several people, especially as one who follows a mostly plant-based diet.
That’s probably why the lesson on “Protein for Athletes” in the Clean Sports Nutrition section of Thrive Forward jumped out at me.
The video below goes into detail on this topic between Brendan Brazier and Aaron Simpson (Professional MMA Fighter). I loved the discussion around the difference between needs of athletes in different sports (endurance vs strength). They talk about the ratio of carb to protein (4:1) after workouts, types of protein, BCAAs, & Glutamine. This is my favorite video I’ve watched so far!
Although they don’t mention any Vega products in this video, I’ll add that the Vega Sport Performance Protein is what I used when I was training for running & triathlon – and is the one I’m still using for strength training. What I didn’t realize until last week that it also contains 5g (5000mg) of Glutamine and over 5g of BCAAs in the mix, which means I’m getting everything I need from one scoop in my post-workout smoothies.
