Why I Am Postponing My Bikini Competition

The first 13 weeks of the year I focused on gaining muscle. I tackled my first bulking season, which a lot less fun than I expected.

The last 7 weeks have been focused on leaning out and preparing for my 3rd bikini competition. Coming down from the heaviest I have ever been, traveling the most I have in my work-life, and trying to stay positive. Although my hubby and my trainer would probably tell you I’ve been complaining about my slow progress more than staying positive.

Last weekend, I made a decision to delay my competition. Ashley (my trainer) and I are 100% committed to keeping my prep healthy. No drastic diets. We want my metabolism to be even stronger at the end of this show than it ever has been. I stress that competition can be and SHOULD be a healthy process in many of my posts and videos.

And I meant it.

I have a good bit of leaning out to do to be ready to hit the stage and WBFF Denver is just too close for comfort. With just 5 weeks left, I don’t think it’s going to happen and I don’t want to be stressed for the next 5 weeks when I know it’s a slim-to-none possibility. So instead, I’m postponing until later this year.

And you know what? If I always hit every timeline, every goal, every target that I set for myself – it would mean I wasn’t setting the bar high enough. I like stretch goals in work and in life. It’s how you achieve things that seem impossible. And I like the impossible.

With a vacation already planned at the end of June, it looks like the next date that fits in my calendar is Oklahoma in October. I’m a bit disappointed I have to wait that long, but I guess it does give me plenty of time!

So the countdown to show day has been paused, but not canceled. Nothing in my nutrition plan or training plan has immediately changed and I’m hoping to keep progressing down to a leaner version of me. Our June vacation is going to be filled with the beach & diving, so I’m hoping to be close to normal (for me) by that trip.

I hope this helps reinforce my commitment to keeping things HEALTHY. Whether I’m running or competing, my end goal is always about living a healthy, active life! Sometimes that means changing my plans, and I think that’s okay.
