Asian Twist

What are your goals for this month? Host an awesome Christmas party for your friends & family? Buy the best gift for your favorite guy or girl? Finish all your shopping BEFORE Christmas Eve? Spend more time with your family? How about a goal to jump-start your fitness – or at least maintain though the busy holiday season?
I used to take December as my “off” month. No structured training, no plans, just fun. But for me, December is the worst month to take off with all the holiday fun going on. I tend to eat a little more, maybe have a drink or two more than usual, sit on the couch for hours to watch every Christmas Special known to man (preferably on ABC Family – I am so easily sucked in!).
25 Days of Christmas
Combine little-to-no exercise with all that fun and I had a lot of work to do come January. So learn from my mistakes (I can’t be the only one who has done this!) and keep moving this month! Just think of how happy you will be when everyone else is getting started in January and you’ll have a whole month under your belt! Today’s inspiration come from two other awesome bloggers – Lindsay and Janetha!

Tuesday Trainer

I’m excited to see what Lindsay comes up with for today’s Tuesday Trainer – this week it’s all about Equipment – Trainer’s Choice. If you still haven’t checked this out, it’s a weekly workout created by Lindsay based on moves submitted via video by other bloggers. There’s a different theme every week – with 12 weeks of workouts in the archive for you to choose from now!

So click on the link above to head over for this week’s workout. This week I submitted a core move that’s been kicking my butt (or abs…hehe)  – TRX Mountain Climbers. And I used some super-cool video graphics that I figured out how to do on my computer – so for the entertainment value alone – you should check this out!

Dedicated December

So while you’re enjoying some of the awesome on Tuesday Trainer, why not head over to Dedicated December and log those workouts for a chance to win cool prizes?! Dinner

All work and no fun is not what December is all about, so Monday night’s dinner helped fill the “fun” category. Kirk volunteered to cook tonight’s dinner of Broccoli Almond Sweet-and-Sour Tofu from Vegan Yum Yum (one of the cookbooks my parents got me for my birthday).

This cookbook has LOTS of pictures and there are so many recipes that sound amazing! But what do we have to drink that goes with Asian food?

Asian Twist
Recipe Type: Drinks
Author: Kirk Blackmon
Serves: 2
Ingredients
  • 120 ml Rum
  • 80 ml Mango Margarita Mix
  • 40 ml Coconut Rum
  • 30 ml Melon Liquor
  • 6 oz Club Soda
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients into shaker filled halfway with ice.
  2. Pour into Collins Glass (see picture) filled with ice.
  3. Top off with Club Soda

I am admittedly a timid mountain biker - but getting better every day.

I'm afraid to face plant, but still working on crow pose in yoga.

Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga clothes?

For at least part of the day, it's just easier to put on yoga pants, sports bra, and a "zoom-appropriate" top. Or a button-up layered over my workout tank. It makes it SO much easier to squeeze in a workout when I have time.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's not going back to work clothes?!

But really, keep your gaze straight ahead to keep your neck safe in bridge (or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). It's rare that a version of this pose isn't included during cooldown in my classes.
