I’ve Got That Marathon Feeling…Sort Of

I was flipping through Runner’s World this weekend while sitting on the floor of our empty house in Atlanta and I noticed a chart of marathon training dates. It listed several Fall marathons and the suggested start date for training, using the typical 16 week training model. I was a little surprised when I saw the date for the Marine Corps Marathon – July 9th.

Oh yea…I guess that is getting closer. In fact, I had thought about doing another 50K leading up to this marathon. Hmm…I guess I really need to get back into a consistent running schedule again!

  • Do I have a plan written yet? No
  • Am I freaking out? Actually, No

I’m pretty proud of that right now, actually. There’s a lot going on in my life right now and it would be really easy (and typical) for me to get stressed out. Instead, I’m taking a different approach.

Over the next 4 weeks, I’m going to get back into a running habit and build back to 30 miles a week. Consistency is the most important this month for me, I’m less concerned about structured workouts than I usually am. My goal is to fit in the mileage I need as we get settled in and figure out our new routine. You may have noticed for FitFluential #Proof pictures recently on Instagram & Twitter – it’s great accountability to get it done no matter what the weather. Winking smile

That will leave me with 12 weeks of good structured training time – plenty of time for me. It also gives me time to plan my schedule without feeling rushed and find races I want to do along the way.

This is SOOOO not my normal approach, but I feel good about it with where I am right now. Different times call for different tactics!
