How to Stay Motivated Long After New Years

Raise your hand if you started a new fitness or nutrition routine at the start of the year. Now keep your hand raised if you’re still committed to that new routine. If you’re hand’s still raised — you are beating the odds (AWESOME job)!  Over 55% of new years resolutions are discarded after just a month, which I’ve experienced at my own gym over the past few weeks. The craziness has died down and there are simply less people in the gym.

How to Stay Motivated Long After New Years. 10 Tips to help you stick with it (or get back on track) // FITaspire..com

While I appreciate the extra space, it also makes me sad that so many have already given up on their goals. Today I want to help you get back on track if you’ve slipped a bit — or be prepared with extra tips to stick with it. Because I know you can do it!!

10 Tips to Stay Motivated

1. Pick a new goal. Or recommit to one that slipped. Every day is a fresh start!

2. Set mini goals along the way. It can be hard to stay motivated for a goal 6 months in the future. MIni goals to hit each month along the way is a great way to stay motivated. Celebrate hitting each goal!

3. Measure your progress. See the progress you’re making by using an objective measure and celebrate your small wins along the way!

4. Recruit a friend to join you. Or join a group program. Building a social community around fitness improves the chances that you stick with fitness (and actually enjoy it!).  If they can’t join you in person, stay accountable virtually through text and phone!

5. Identify your obstacles & plan your attack. Avoid the snack area at work, plan your workouts at the time of day you won’t miss them, fill your cabinets with healthy snack to fight cravings.

6. Download an audiobook and ONLY listen to it when you workout. Make it a good one and you’ll have another reason you NEED to workout.

7. Write down your goals. Try my 3 Changes for a Healthier Year printable to keep your goals balanced & increase your chance of success.

8. Get rid of perfection. You don’t have to be perfect. Just stick with it and make progress. Don’t fall into the trap of giving up when you aren’t perfect.

9. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We all have days that are tough. Reach out to friends, family, and even social media networks when you need a little encouragement!

10. Find a motivational phrase that gives you an extra kick. Keep Moving Forward. Just Keep Swimming. One More Mile. Find the phrase that inspires you!
