FITaspire Favorites: June

June 18, 2015 By Heather Blackmon

.

It feels like summer and the torrential rains seem to have stopped in Colorado, so I think it’s finally time for summer favorites! This weekend we have plans to head out on my first backpacking trip (Kirk has some experience in this area) and I’m as excited as a kid! I have plenty of camping experience, and plenty of hiking with my pack, so now it’s time to put those two together and see how it goes. I have big plans for the summer, assuming I enjoy the experience!

Fitaspire Favorites - June 2015

As I prepare for each favorites post, I make notes in Evernote of things I love. When I hit 4-5 items in my saved list, I know it’s time to schedule this post. This month is mostly functional fashion, although I couldn’t leave off my latest foodie find!

Disclaimer: Some of the links below are affiliate links and I will earn a  small commission if you purchase through those links. I also received a few of these products for review, which I have noted in the description. As always, I only share things that I would recommend to my family and friends. You can read my disclosure policy here.

FITaspire Favorites: April

1. Inspire Necklace (Momentum Jewelry) – $25

As you probably know by now, I’m a Momentum Jewelry Ambassador — and I’m seriously in love with all their products! One of my recent favorites is this necklace, which is simple enough to wear with almost everything. My necklace says “Find Joy in the Journey”, which works particularly well with my “Live Joyfully” leather wrap. I told you I love this company! As always, make sure you click one of my links, so you can save 10% off any purchase!

2. KeeKee Swimsuit (Adore Me) – from $39.99

I like to have a one-piece bathing suit for times when I feel a little less comfortable in a bikini, hot tub lounging, and for scuba diving (which I will be enjoying in a little over a week!!). I seem to have a hard time finding cute one-piece suits that don’t make you look like an old lady, though. I happened to notice the swim options in a lingerie subscription service I’ve been using for a few months…and I had a free credit to use. Since they offer free shipping & free returns, I decided to try the KeeKee Swimsuit and it’s a great fit!

The mesh cutouts give it a modern, sexy look – even though it’s a fairly conservative suit. And the bandeau top is actually flattering, instead of flattening for the girls! If you’re not an Adore Me member, you can get the suit for $10 more than I listed above. Or you can use my referral link to try your first month for $25!

3. LACTAID® Lowfat Cottage Cheese

You might laugh at this one, but I recently found this lactose-intolerant friendly cottage cheese and it is amazing! I love the texture and nutritional value of cottage cheese, but since I’m lactose-intolerant it hasn’t been worth the discomfort. This stuff tastes great (Kirk eats it too and he has no dairy problems) and I’ve been topping it with fruit or protein granola for a snack a few times a week!

4. La Sportiva Synthesis Surround GTX Hiking Boots – $180

This is the first time in ages I have actually owned hiking boots! For the last several years, I’ve been hiking in a pair of trail running shoes, but wanted something with a bit more support. When REI had their big sale before Memorial Weekend, we stocked up on several backpacking essentials AND each picked out a pair of hiking boots.

These were way more expensive than I had planned, but they fit my feet so well, were highly rated by Backpacker Magazine..and they were on sale! Honestly, the look is a little too space-age for me, but I know from running that shouldn’t factor into my decision. I’ve taken these hiking on several different types of terrain (including snow) in the past few months and they have lived up to my expectations completely. I’m excited to put them to the test again this weekend!

5. Reebok One Kaleidoscope Tight – $55

I had the opportunity to test these out over the past few months (thanks Reebok!) and these are MY kind of wild & crazy pants! The fit is very flattering with a wide waistband and lots of pattern. The only problem I have is finding a top to pair with it – it’s not a color I have a lot of in my closet. And they are a bit long on this short girl, but I just roll them up and call it good. I’ve worn them to the gym & running – they work great for both (no chafing or riding up).

That’s all for this month! I hope you find at least one new find to try for yourself.

Which is more YOUR thing - camping near an alpine Which is more YOUR thing - camping near an alpine lake or shredding on a local trail? ⬇️

In both cases, we need to protect the land we enjoy on our adventures. And Leave No Trace is one program that helps with that - especially those that have a high rate of degradation through a program called Hot Spots.

I'm excited to be partnering with @leavenotrace and @onxbackcountry to celebrate and preserve all these beautiful outdoor places. And for all of June, $10 of every onX Backcountry membership is being donated towards Leave No Trace’s Hot Spot program. A great way to get access to my favorite backcountry app AND support LNT!

What scares me is probably different than what scares you.

I am admittedly a timid mountain biker - but getting better every day.

I'm afraid to face plant, but still working on crow pose in yoga.

Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga clothes?

For at least part of the day, it's just easier to put on yoga pants, sports bra, and a "zoom-appropriate" top. Or a button-up layered over my workout tank. It makes it SO much easier to squeeze in a workout when I have time.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's not going back to work clothes?!

But really, keep your gaze straight ahead to keep your neck safe in bridge (or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). It's rare that a version of this pose isn't included during cooldown in my classes.

Do you love bridge as much as I do?
