Competition Countdown – Only 6 Weeks to Go!

October 1, 2013 By Heather Blackmon

.

You know how everyone says time flies? I’m feeling that pretty strongly right now as I’m under 6 weeks to my first fitness competition! There are times when I feel confident and strong, but honestly much of the time I’m freaked out right now. I know in my head this is part of the process and it will come together, but it’s scary to think about walking around on a stage in my fancy heels right now.

Competition Countdown

The Workouts

I finished a second week of the group three workouts last week. This group is the hardest to fit in during the workday, since the second workout takes 2 of the three take longer than 45 minutes. It takes a little more planning, but so far I have only missed one workout during training.

One of the things I really like about this group of workouts is the cardio. The goal of the intervals is to work HARD, where you basically feel like you’re going to die at the end of each. I chose running, because it’s my favorite way to really push it. Although I’m not putting in much mileage (just over 12 miles a week), the constant speedwork makes me feel like a runner again!

6 Weeks To Go - Competition Prep!

My legs are holding up so far and I’m paying close attention to make sure that remains the case. I do need to be stretching more, as reinforced by my massage therapist last night. I’ve been neglecting this more than I should be recently!

By the way, did you see my latest Ellie workout gear (affiliate link) in this week’s photos? I think this might have been the best month yet! I can’t decide which one I like more – the top is so flattering and the capris are perfectly obnoxious. The top even comes with removable padding – which I don’t personally need, but I know others love that sort of thing!

Ellie Gear September

If you still haven’t tried Ellie, you can save 20% off your first order using my link (or the ad in the sidebar). As a  Fit Fashionista Club member, this outfit only cost me $50 – I think that’s a great deal!

What’s Next?

I try not too look ahead too much during training, but in keeping with my recent freak-out I did check-in with my trainer last night. She reassured me that I have plenty of time to lean out. Apparently my diet will be changing next week to focus on “cutting”, so I’m telling myself to trust the process. And I’ll try to freak out a little less often.

Now to find a  bikini… And pay for NPC…. And register for the competition. One thing at a time!

Questions for you:

  • What was your favorite workout last week?
  • What color bikini should I get?

Which is more YOUR thing - camping near an alpine Which is more YOUR thing - camping near an alpine lake or shredding on a local trail? ⬇️

In both cases, we need to protect the land we enjoy on our adventures. And Leave No Trace is one program that helps with that - especially those that have a high rate of degradation through a program called Hot Spots.

I'm excited to be partnering with @leavenotrace and @onxbackcountry to celebrate and preserve all these beautiful outdoor places. And for all of June, $10 of every onX Backcountry membership is being donated towards Leave No Trace’s Hot Spot program. A great way to get access to my favorite backcountry app AND support LNT!

I added a link in my bio if you're interested in learning more, so you can help #ExploreandRestore!

What scares me is probably different than what scares you.

I am admittedly a timid mountain biker - but getting better every day.

I'm afraid to face plant, but still working on crow pose in yoga.

Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga Am I the only one still (basically) living in yoga clothes?

For at least part of the day, it's just easier to put on yoga pants, sports bra, and a "zoom-appropriate" top. Or a button-up layered over my workout tank. It makes it SO much easier to squeeze in a workout when I have time.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's not going back to work clothes?!

But really, keep your gaze straight ahead to keep your neck safe in bridge (or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). It's rare that a version of this pose isn't included during cooldown in my classes.

Do you love bridge as much as I do?
