I’m taking a break from blogging today to feature one of my friends who is a healthy living blogger and has recently launched a natural dog treat business on Etsy! I immediately bought both varieties for my puppies and they gobbled them up eagerly. I asked Kait to share some of her healthy tips for pets today, as it’s not a topic I’m as versed in as she is. I think you’ll enjoy this one!
Hello everyone! I’m Kait, and I blog over at Chickadee Says, my little corner of the Internet where I share my take on healthy and holistic living for both humans and our furry friends!
I am unabashedly obsessed with my Samoyed, Tinkerbelle (she is even my blog’s logo!). I believe that we should take care of our pets the same as we would our children or ourselves, giving them the chance to be as healthy and happy as we are! From exercise to grooming and everything in between, there are so many options for natural products for our fur babies that stay away from harmful chemicals and additives.
If you’re looking forward to welcoming a new furry family member into your home or want to make sure that that your current fuzzy friends are well taken care of, I’ve outlined a few of my top tips for happy, healthy, all natural pets!
1. All-Natural Food!
There are so many options on the market for all-natural pet food, free of additives and chemicals! Look for a brand with whole foods listed first. Chicken, beef, salmon, sweet potato- these unadulterated ingredients are easier on your pets’ bellies and offer the nutrients that come along with whole foods, like those we feed ourselves! I love that there are so many brands that offer specialty foods as well based on age, weight, and dietary restrictions. Tink’s food is grain-free as she has a sensitive digestive system, but read the packaging and ask your vet what options are best for your animals!
2. Exercise is Fun
Just like we should get in our daily dose of movement, our animals need to as well! While animals are constantly running around our homes, they need strenuous exercise as well. Take your pup on your evening run, (or a weekend hike if they’re up for it) or buy a laser pointer for your feline friend to chase around. The great thing about getting in that exercise for our pets is that it is fun for us as well! Who doesn’t love watching their pup bounce around like a mountain goat?
3. Chemical Free Grooming
Unfortunately, many grooming products are riddled with chemicals claiming to keep your pet tick and flee free, or give your pooch a shiny coat. While these products can keep the vermin off your pet, they can also be very harmful if licked, ingested, or irritate any skin the chemicals touch! So opt for the plethora of all natural grooming products out there that offer pest prevention like tea tree oil (dogs only!) or oatmeal for soothing skin. You can see what I use to keep Tinkerbelle clean here!
4. Treats: Go Homemade!
If you have a feline friend, try growing your own wheat grass from wheat berries as a healthy treat that is wonderful for digestion!
5. Love Them
By far the most important, love your pets! Show them affection, play with them, and cuddle if they’ll let you! The love we show our pets gets returned in spades and has a profound effect on our pet’s (and our own) happiness level! A happy pet is a healthy pet!
