When I was in high school, I developed a crush. Not on a guy, but on a Jeep Wrangler. In fact I was known to sing “Jeep, Jeep, Jeep” whenever I saw one. Then I met a guy who bought one of his own. Just another reason Kirk and I got along so well.
7 years ago it was time to buy a new car. I loved my Mustang convertible, but with all our triathlon adventures, it was increasingly difficult to fit my gear (especially my bike) into my cute little car. I needed space, but was really disappointed to lose the fun of putting the top down on a beautiful day.
Then Kirk suggested a Jeep.
They had just introduced the 4-door Unlimited version and I was quickly smitten by this bigger, awesome version. I special ordered my big, green Jeep, because no one in town had a manual transmission with the navigation system. A shame they even make the Wrangler with an automatic transmission in my opinion.
My Jeep has been everywhere with us – from Atlanta to Colorado – in the past 7 years. Our frequent weekend trips to the mountains helped rack up the mileage, with over 120,000 miles in the past 7 years. I loved my Jeep, but it was time to consider a new vehicle. Last weekend, after a week of email negotiations with a few local dealers, we made a deal and we added a third Wrangler to our family car history!
Why I’m A Jeep Girl
1. My own personal transformer
Wranglers have stolen my heart with how flexible they are. Doors on, doors off, top down, top half-way down, windshield down – there are endless configurations. And you can buy different styles of doors and tops to really customize it however you’d like. I think that’s why it’s not a vehicle you get tired of. If you need a change, you can make a change without getting a new car.

2. Tough enough for on-road & off-road
It’s comfortable enough for every day and handles whatever you throw at it. When we drive to the mountains on a snowy day, I can throw it in 4-wheel drive and safely pass the slower cars around me. Once we hit stopped traffic and noticed a small, unplowed road that would get us around it. No problem to blaze our own trail and avoid sitting in traffic for 3+ hours!
Tired of the road? Hit the trail. Sometimes this is planned as a way to unwind and relax. Bumping along an off-road trail is freeing! Sometimes the road ends and you’re not done driving. That works too and can be equally as exhilarating!
3. High Tech Toughness
This is even more evident in my 2015 model, but Wranglers have been making huge strides for the past 10 years. Automatic windows, doors, and navigation system was just the start. Now I have integrated bluetooth phone, heated mirrors, & audio controls on the steering wheel. I get that many cars have had these options for a while, but all this on a Wrangler just makes an already awesome Jeep even better. It’s a killer combination!
It is definitely time to take the newest Jeep (I’m calling it my “fancy Jeep”) off-road to experience Colorado. You better believe we’re going to have some fun in this one!
